Week 7 4/5/2018

Today we are continuing the construction of the Catapult. We are almost done with the building but will need to upgrade it after we build the Trebuchet. The Trebuchet will be a little more challenging because of the complexity compared to the Catapult. We had to unscrew the unstable base of the Trebuchet to redo it and try to make it a little more stable. We made some progress on the Catapult but its becoming rough.

Today we redesigned the Catapult to guarantee that it will work the way we want it to. Our design will include large rubber bands that will create power to launch the object. We will pull the arm back into a stable position and lock it in and release when we are ready to fire the catapult. The Trebuchet is almost the same but will be using weights instead of a rubber band.

Blog Week 1: 2/13/2018 As our first blog this will be an explanation of our project. Our main focus is to compare the Trebuchet and Catapult to see which one will launch an object the furthest. This should be a difficult but enjoyable experience for the group. Hopefully it goes smoothly and we can succeed throughout these 12 weeks. Proposal: The project that we will be completing will include creating a Catapult and a Trebuchet. They will have a pivot point under 4 ft tall and the base will be 3 ft by 4 ft. The reason we are doing this project is to find whether the Catapult or Trebuchet will launch an object the furthest distance. Timeline: Week 1: Research Previous Catapults/Trebuchets and parts Design the Structures on Solidworks Week 2: Gather Materials to construct the structures Continue design on Solidworks Week 3: Constructing the Catapult Week 4:  Constructing the Trebuchet Week 5: Troubleshooting and Improvements Week 6: Troubles

Week 5: 3/12/2018

On Thursday 3/8/2018 we went to home depot to purchase the wood and it went well. This was a lot of wood because we are building a Trebuchet and a Catapult. We hope to begin building next week if we get approved by Mr Martin. Our design for the Catapult was not up to par because our source of energy was not going to work. The Trebuchet design was good but we have to change the Catapult. Our design for the Catapult will be using Torsion. A rope will be wrapped around the arm of the catapult to create Torque and will be released.
